Winning Battles to Win the War: Recent Sports

This past week Irish athletics went into battle during the highly anticipated matchups with the Berrien Springs Shamrocks. Our United football team threw the first punch, defeating the Shamrocks last Thursday night 20-14.

Starting Running Back Sam Finley says, “These past few years Berrien Springs has been one of our games we look forward to. I think that they have felt the same way and it just started to carry over into our other sports as well.”

Just this past Tuesday, our XC team was next for a Shamrock matchup, racing the Shamrocks at their very own course, and did not disappoint. Our Lady Irish finished 3rd overall beating Berrien Springs and the men tied for 4th place with Berrien Springs. Although our men were just short of beating the Shamrocks, tying with them was still a good showing for our Irish.

Our Men’s tennis team is looking to secure the bag and wrap up the Berrien Springs vs Hackett multi-sport matchup. Coming hot off two back-to-back 7-1 wins against the Portage Northern Huskies and the Buchanan Bucks, the Irish are cooking with gas for their matchup on Thursday with Berrien Springs.

Senior Chris Ogrin said, “We’re coming off two great wins which should help us carry that momentum into our match with Berrien Springs. They’re always a good team so we are going to need everything we’ve got.”

The men are looking to redeem themselves after losing to the Shamrocks last year 2-6, but the strong veteran presence is looking promising for the Irish.

Our fall sports have been successful in the athletic battle with Berrien Springs and are hoping to win the athletic war on Thursday. Fall sports are gearing up, so don’t forget to show that Irish spirit. GO IRISH!
