SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: A Minor Set Back to a Major Come Back - Preston Cosby

Updated: Apr 17

He winds up for the pitch….and…..POP! Just like that, his junior season falls short. Preston Cosby has been on an incredible rollercoaster of events, from the popular public school 8th grader to the shining pitching star at the private school, to the junior with a torn UCL waiting for redemption in his senior year.

Preston Cosby, one of the most charismatic, hard-working, and funny guys to walk through Hackett Catholic Prep, suffered an injury no athlete wishes to experience. “Tearing my UCL changed my perspective on life because now I realized I can’t take everything for granted.”

Ever since then, Preston has been on the right path to success. While being a senior and participating in Varsity Baseball, Preston knows all about managing his time. From working for DoorDash in the fall, plowing snow in the winter, and landscaping for Portage Recreations in the summer, he values the trajectory of his career. Preston understands balance and embodies the perfect student-athlete role model.

Preston sure knows how to organize his life, but if you are looking for the guy who will lighten any situation, then Preston is also your guy. His past four years at Hackett Preston has built his legacy, being known for his witty humor and quarterback Josh Allen. “I have a good sense of humor, you know I dance around the line, sometimes crossing it, but it's all in good intentions.” You may even catch Preston appealing his consequences in the office, living by his principle, “Deny, deny, deny.”

Coming from the public schools, Preston was worried about the change and wasn’t so keen on the idea. However, after a few weeks at Hackett Catholic Prep, Preston found his new home, making some of his favorite memories these past years. “My favorite memory was sophomore year basketball when we went 20-0. Also, everything these past few months has been memorable because these are the last days I have left with these people.”

Preston Cosby has been on an exhilarating journey these past few years. As he enters the first part of his senior baseball season, he makes his way back to the diamond despite injuring his UCL a year ago. In just a few weeks, he should be ready to take the mound and redeem himself, making history and bringing home a state championship.
