Deacon's Promotion
The Hackett community is sad to announce the leave of our beloved Theology teacher Deacon Kurt Lucas. Deacon has been a crucial member of our community and staff for the past 25 years. He started out in the Diocese and expressed that he has always been a teacher and will miss it dearly. “My favorite class to teach is freshman theology, I love it.”
Deacon Lucas has flourished into such an amazing structure that his favorite memory in his time here is “Every year, when a student is confused and all of a sudden they get it and you can see it in his or her face”.
For as long as Deacon has worked at Hackett, he has had the opportunity to grow with the other staff members. Mrs. Williams has worked at Hackett for 16 years so she has gotten to watch Deacon grow. Describing him as, “A man of integrity who holds his students accountable to high stands yet has the same expectation for himself. I thoroughly enjoy working with him and never missed words.”
Additionally, Mrs Johnston, who has worked here for 31 years, describes Deacon Lucas as “gruffly kind.” She expresses that she will remember that “He always needed NHS tutors at the beginning of the year for his students that couldn't pass the Books of the Bible’ test.” For those who have had the pleasure of having Deacon as a teacher, you know how difficult and renowned these tests are.
Apart from the memories he has contributed to the staff, he has also positively affected his students in and outside of the classroom. Mrs. Williams expresses that, “He has been instrumental in developing our student’s understanding of the Catholic faith.”
Senior Emma Bartholomew says, “He was really compassionate and made me feel comfortable to ask questions that I normally wouldn’t feel welcome to ask.”
As Deacon heads into his next step of his career, he expresses that, “God called me to this position, to do his will and to accomplish all he has for me in this part of my career.” He has had the opportunity to become the new Assistant Superintendent and will carry out this position shortly.
Deacon Kurt Lucas has been a pillar of the Hackett community for 25 years and he will be missed dearly, but we cannot wait to see how he will continue to provide for our community.
